Welcome to our D2 classroom. This will be our main source of information about our learning program. Please refer to this site if you have any questions, and if you still are not sure, please email us. Learning task outlines and requirements, and the handing in of work is to be done through our class Connect site. Remember to check in on Connect regularly, to find out what is happening in our room and be aware of any ongoing classroom tasks. The children love to show you what they are doing and this is another way you can be involved in our classroom.

CLASSROOM CHARTER
|
Your child's best behaviour and best effort are expected at all times. Our classroom operates towards the elevation of independence and higher order thinking. The children are expected to make decisions and construct solutions to problems using their own intuition and resourcefulness. We want to foster learners with the skills to approach new experiences and the ability to devise strategies to tackle new challenges.
ALLERGIES - There is an increasing number of students in the school with food allergies. In particular, we request that no foods containing nuts of any kind are sent to school. We ask you to be mindful when sending food to school for lunches and snacks. Winthrop P. S. follows the Education Department's Healthy Eating Guidelines, so there are suggested restrictions on sugars and fats. We also remind you that the school has a policy of no sharing of food between students.
ABSENCES - In the event of any absence from school a note or email needs to be sent to cover that absence. Telling the teacher in person is not sufficient as we need to have written documentation. This is a legal requirement.
BIRTHDAYS - This year Winthrop Primary School is adhering to a 'No Food for Birthdays' initiative. This brings us further into line with the Education Department's strict Healthy Eating Guidelines. As a school community, we request that children don't bring food to school to share.
SCHOOL UNIFORM - Full school uniform is required. We also ask that any ribbons, etc., be kept to school uniform colours. There is a 'no hat/no play' policy in place at this school, so it is particularly important that all children are provided with a hat.
INTERVIEWS - Interviews are available at any time throughout the term/year, if you feel you need to discuss an issue or your child's progress. Please come and see us, or send a note or an email to make an appointment. If at any time we are concerned about your child's progress or behaviour we will contact you to come in and discuss it. Before school is a particularly busy time, therefore we regret that it is not possible to discuss specific issues at these busy times without an appointment.
RESOURCES - A few students have commenced the year without the required materials on the booklist. It is understood that some items are on backorder. It is important that the requested items are at school, as soon as possible. Consumables such as pens, erasers, pencils do run out or get lost through the year, so could you please check with your child regularly to make sure they have all the necessary equipment. Your child cannot work efficiently or effectively if they don't have the materials they need.
WORK STANDARDS - The children are expected to aim for their personal best, at all times. This includes writing, ruling up, setting out and content. Care and effort is expected in everything they do. Presentation quality is the expectation in our room. Please encourage your child to 'be the best they can be'.
WATER BOTTLES - We do allow children to bring water bottles into the classroom, however they will be asked to place them on an assigned cupboard, as it is unsafe for them to be kept on the desks near iPads and computers. They will also be asked to put them in their bags if they become a distraction. They are to be filled with plain water only.
MONEY - Money and permission notes for activities or excursions are to be placed in the locked box at the front office. Please ensure that you have included the completed permission/payment slip, clearly marked with your child's full name and their class.
PARENT HELPERS - We have already had many offers of assistance from our wonderful parents! We will be asking for help with various programs throughout the year, so keep an eye out for the Connect notices.
