Society & Environment - history, geography, economics
Your child will want to dive straight into throwing together a final copy of their work. They often don't understand that the learning lies in the process of finding, selecting, collating and then presenting information. There is a sequence to follow when helping your child to find information and produce a report.

They often don't understand that the learning lies in the process of finding, selecting, collating and then presenting information. - The topic needs to be defined and understood
- The child needs to understand what it is they have to do and what the writers purpose is in writing this report (to inform a reader).
- Appropriate resources need to found (a variety of sources is essential - books, websites, documentaries, articles).
- The best information needs to be selected. (elimination of inappropriate sources is often the best strategy here)
- Note taking from all sources (using, key words and dot point strategies at this stage)
- The need to use the key words, dot points and their own developing understanding to rewrite the information in their own words.
- All references and used sources need to be recorded to construct a bibliography. It is essential that they get accustomed to recording the title, author, publisher and year of publication of all resources they use, sheets for this purpose are available in the classroom.
- Presentations need to be thoroughly thought through after the material has been collated, and planned to suit the material being presented.
- A final draft of the information and the presentation needs to be completed.
- Last check, proof reading, editing, partner editing.
- Publish the work.
